Week 4 of 8
“Chosen discomfort” · this week's lesson
Discomfort you choose is what builds the capacity to take the kind you don't.
Easter's argument is that we've engineered away every discomfort and come out more fragile for it. He went looking for people who put it back on purpose — cold water, long distances on foot, the occasional skipped meal — and found that the ones who choose a little hardship hold up better when the real thing arrives unannounced.
—— Michael Easter, The Comfort Crisis
One thing this week: schedule one discomfort you control — an early night, an hour off the phone, or a cold shower.
